| Description |
Three Saxon circular pillar
crosses. They date from the late 9th / early 10th century.
All have circular shafts tapering to a rectangular section.
There are traces of weathered interlace decoration visible
on the rectangular sections. These types of cross are
found on the hillslopes above the Cheshire Plain and
in the Peak District. They may indicate the northern
boundary of the Anglo-Saxon kingdom of Mercia |
